Artificial intelligence is no longer just a buzzword. It is changing how businesses work, plan, and grow. But for many small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), AI can feel out of reach. It looks expensive. It looks complicated. It looks built for big companies with big budgets.

Fabio Lauria wants to change that idea.

He is the CEO and Founder of ELECTE, a company built to help SMEs use their data to make smarter decisions. His mission is simple. He wants every business, no matter its size, to use AI in a practical way. Not as a trend. As a tool.

    Who Is Fabio Lauria?

Fabio Lauria is based in Milan, Italy. Before he started ELECTE in 2023, he spent more than ten years working in industrial operations. During that time, he held several roles, including CEO of Lauria Impianti. This gave him real, hands-on experience with how businesses actually run. He saw their daily struggles. He understood their limits. And he saw a clear gap: most SMEs were not using data the way large enterprises did.

This experience shaped his next move. He founded ELECTE to close that gap.

    What Is ELECTE?

ELECTE is a data analytics platform. It helps small and medium businesses turn raw data into clear, useful insights. Instead of guessing, business owners can now make decisions based on facts.

The platform has earned recognition in the industry. It won the Best AI Data Analytics Platform 2025 award from Corporate Vision Magazine’s Technology Innovator Awards. It has also been honored at the Netty Awards for its contribution to data intelligence. ELECTE is also a W3C Member, which means it takes part in shaping global standards for data and privacy.

These achievements are not just trophies. They show that ELECTE’s approach to AI and data is being noticed at a serious level.

A Voice for AI in Business

Beyond running ELECTE, Fabio Lauria is known as a writer and thinker on AI in business. He shares his insights with a growing community of more than 40,000 professionals. His writing focuses on one big idea: AI should be useful, not flashy.

He recently authored a white paper called “AI for European SMEs: The 2026 Playbook.” This guide is packed with practical advice. It includes real numbers, real case studies, and real strategies that small businesses can use right away.

For example, his work breaks down ten AI use cases with clear return-on-investment numbers. These include areas like customer support, invoice processing, quality control, supply chain forecasting, and compliance monitoring. Each use case comes with details on costs, savings, and how long it takes to break even.

He also looked at new hardware announced at CES 2026, including chips from NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel. He turned this technical information into a simple buying guide. It helps SME owners pick the right technology for budgets ranging from €1,500 to €20,000.

This is the heart of his message: AI should be explained in plain language, with real numbers, so business owners can act with confidence.

Why So Many AI Projects Fail

Lauria does not just talk about success. He is honest about failure too.

According to his research, many SMEs struggle when they adopt AI tools. Hidden costs are a big problem. For companies with fewer than 500 employees, the real cost of using AI tools can be 3.5 times higher than the original price tag. This is because of extra costs like integration, training staff, and managing change. Larger enterprises usually face a much smaller increase, closer to 1.2 times the original price, because they already have strong IT systems in place.

Timing is another issue. Most SMEs need about 14 months to see a return on their AI investment. But many companies only set aside about 9 months of budget for a new tool. This gap between “time needed” and “time available” causes serious problems.

The numbers tell the story clearly. Only 16% of SMEs renewed their automation contracts in 2025. Compare that to 84% of large enterprises who renewed theirs. This is a massive difference, and it shows that something is going wrong for smaller businesses.

Lauria points out that fast, no-code tools are often sold as the fix. They promise quick setup, sometimes in just 30 days. But speed is not always the answer. Without clean data, proper planning, and someone to manage the system afterward, a fast launch often just means a fast failure.

    A Roadmap for Real Results

Instead of just pointing out problems, Lauria offers solutions. He has created a three-phase roadmap to help SMEs go from having no AI tools to running a working AI system in 90 days. This roadmap includes realistic budget ranges, from about €7,400 to €23,100, covering both technology and specialist labor.

This kind of clear, step-by-step thinking is what sets his advice apart. He is not selling a dream. He is offering a practical plan with honest numbers attached.

The Bigger Picture: AI and Content

Lauria also writes about how AI is changing the world of content and marketing. He notes that AI has cut content production costs in half over just two years. Today, a huge share of new web pages, around 74%, already include AI-generated content.

But he warns that this creates a new challenge. If everyone’s AI-made content looks the same, it stops being special. It becomes a commodity. His advice is simple: use AI to work faster, but keep human judgment, identity, and trust at the center. These are the things that AI cannot copy.

    Final Thoughts

Fabio Lauria’s journey, from industrial operations to founding ELECTE, reflects a clear goal. He wants to make AI useful, honest, and accessible for the businesses that need it most: small and medium-sized companies.

His message is not about hype. It is about results, real numbers, and realistic timelines. In a world full of big promises about AI, that kind of honesty stands out.

As more SMEs look to bridge the gap with larger competitors, voices like Fabio Lauria’s may shape how this technology gets used in the years ahead.
